In a serious case of curiosity killed the cat, a new bug that claims to set your iPhone back to a retro 1970’s mode, is effectively rendering inquisitive Apple customers’ phones useless. The digital prank suggests that you can ‘warp back in time with a classic Macintosh theme to relive the magic on your iPhone’.
Gotcha’
In reality, setting your iPhone to the first of January 1970 bricks your device, turning it into a $1000 paperweight. Apple has acknowledged the issue, stating that ‘changing the date will prevent your iOS device from turning on after restart’ and that if you are experiencing the issue you should contact Apple Support.
For those unlucky enough to fall for the hoax, perhaps you will ‘think differently’ about digital gimmicks from now on.
