Facebook is challenging the well-known 20th century ‘six degrees of separation’ theory in saying that we’re actually 3.57 degrees apart. So does that mean Mark Zuckerberg is really a friend of a friend of a friend of a ‘kinda’ friend?
Facebook hosted ‘Friends Day’ to celebrate their 12th birthday of which they announced information on the decreased gap of separation around the world. Scientists created an algorithm to work out how separated its users are. Facebook said, “The degrees of separation between a typical pair of Facebook users has continued to decrease to 3.57 degrees, down from 3.74 degrees in 2011.”
Zuckerberg hopes to expand to 5 billion users from the current 1.5 billion by 2030. He added, “We want to finish connecting everyone; we’re going to do it in partnership with governments and different companies all over the world.”
