The Property Council has warmly welcomed the appointment of Davina Rooney as the new chief executive officer (CEO) of the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA).
“This is a terrific appointment and one that will allow the GBCA to continue to expand its impact as a champion for a sustainable built environment,” said Ken Morrison, chief executive of the Property Council of Australia.
“Davina is a highly regarded sustainability expert and an individual who has the leadership attributes to make a big difference in this role.
“She brings an impressive track record from her role as General Manager of Sustainability and Corporate Procurement at Stockland where she helped the company to be an internationally-awarded leader in sustainability.
“Her background as a civil engineer also means she has a deep insight into how to deliver sustainability outcomes through the lifecycle of a project, from the construction site through to the boardroom where strategic decisions are made.
“Davina has contributed her expertise through a variety of industry forums and not-for-profit boards, including her recently-completed role as the chair of the Property Council’s National Sustainability Roundtable for the past two years,” Mr Morrison said.
Mr Morrison said the GBCA had transformed Australia’s approach to sustainability in the built environment and the appointment of a new CEO came at an important time for the industry.
“Our built environment represents about a quarter of Australia’s carbon emissions, and will need to feature strongly in our transition to a net-zero emissions economy by the middle of the century.
“The leadership of bodies such as GBCA, supported by the Property Council and other industry groups and stakeholders, will be essential in realising this goal,” Mr Morrison said.
Mr Morrison paid tribute to the outgoing CEO of the GBCA, Romilly Madew AO, for her significant and transformational leadership over the past 13 years.
