Election 2025 Holds High Stakes for Australian Businesses

As Australians finish up at the polls today, the 2025 federal election carries significant implications for the country’s business landscape. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s Labor government holds a lead in the final Newspoll with 52.5% on a two-party preferred basis, while Opposition Leader Peter Dutton’s Coalition trails on 47.5%.

One of the most contentious issues for business owners is Labor’s proposed superannuation tax reform, which would double the tax on super balances over $3 million to 30%, including unrealised gains. The National Farmers’ Federation has warned this could force thousands of family farms to sell, disrupting succession plans and threatening rural livelihoods.

Cost-of-living pressures also remain a dominant concern. Voters across diverse demographics have expressed mounting anxiety over surging rental prices, household bills and access to affordable healthcare. While both major parties have pledged action on these issues, scepticism about election promises persists.

For businesses large and small, the policies of the next government will prove pivotal in shaping Australia’s post pandemic economic recovery and determining future growth opportunities.

Stay tuned for more updates as the election unfolds.
