Australia’s franchising sector is positioning itself for solid growth in 2025, spurred on by population increases and shifting consumer habits. Franchise groups are actively recruiting new operators to expand in both metropolitan and regional areas, capitalising on a 2.3% annual population growth, largely driven by overseas migration.
The Franchise Council of Australia is set to launch its inaugural Franchise Industry Awards on 25 June at Sydney’s Fullerton Hotel, celebrating the best and brightest in the sector. The event will run alongside the Franchise Forum, offering professional development and insights into current industry trends.
However, franchisors and franchisees alike must navigate a changing regulatory landscape. Updates to the Franchising Code of Conduct, which came into effect on 1 April 2025, have introduced significant revisions to disclosure obligations and dispute resolution processes. Coupled with inflationary pressures, labour shortages and growing calls for sustainable business practices, franchising operators face an evolving market.
Despite these challenges, Australia’s franchising industry remains resilient, with strong potential for expansion and innovation over the coming year.
