On Monday 6th May, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry welcomed their newborn son to the world. Posing for their first photocall on Wednesday afternoon.
It has been a long tradition within the Royal family of presenting their newborn to the media. Both Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge and Princess Diana gave birth to all their children and posed for the iconic pictures on the steps of the Lindo Wing at St Mary’s Hospital Paddington, London.
The Sussexes however, took their first family portrait at Windsor Castle in St George’s Hall. The St. George’s Hall has special significance for Meghan and Harry as their wedding back in 2018 was held at the St. George’s Chapel. Her Majesty the Queen also celebrated their marriage in 2018 with a lunchtime reception held at St. George’s Hall.
Despite being at a different location and previous announcement of a non-traditional birth photocall, Meghan and Prince Harry’s family debut was still quite formal. Meghan Markle wore a belted white sleeveless dress by Grace Wales Bonner matched with nude Manolo Blahnik Pumps.
Meghan was dressed up in high heels along with her full hair and makeup, facing the press only 2 days after the birth of her child. This caused some public controversy as many people expressed their sympathy towards Meghan having to face the royal pressure and being expected to speak to the media right after giving birth.
Individuals had been criticising and commenting on Meghan’s appearance at the photocall, examining her body language and saying she looked uncomfortable and exhausted. Well maybe she just had a baby?! What are your thoughts?
