According to Digiday Snapchat is developing an algorithm that will determine the ranking of new content from publishers and brands in user feeds. Currently Snapchat users see messages in chronological order but a new algorithm could see curated content from publishers and especially brands.
A top publishing source close to Snapchat said, “It’s going to be the same model Facebook has: It’s free for everybody to share content, but an algorithm will penalize some people and boost others. That’s why you don’t want to be beholden to any one of these platforms or you’re suddenly stuck when the game changes.” This means brands are going to have the opportunity to buy more prominent placement like Facebook and Google currently do.
There are reports that the photo-sharing app will unveil a new look for the Discover page as early as June 7. The redesign will have a brand new layout abandoning the circular icons and possibly look a bit more Instagram-esque. All businesses should really start tapping into Snapchat because with 10 billion video views daily and 100 million daily active users, it is definitely a platform to reach target audiences.
