Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has confirmed that while he won’t be calling the election today, the announcement is just around the corner.
Speaking to Triple M, Albanese stated:
“I can confirm that I’m not calling it today, but I will call it soon. I think Australians want to get on with it. Certainly, my caucus colleagues do.”
His comments were slightly more specific than those made earlier on ABC Radio Sydney, where he only said the announcement would come “soon.”
With the election required to take place on a Saturday and needing at least 33 days’ notice, there are now only three possible dates left:
If the election isn’t called by this Sunday, May 3 will no longer be an option. Meanwhile, next Sunday marks the final deadline for a May 10 election.
As the countdown continues, Australians can expect an official announcement any day now.
